Note on funded ratios: A funded ratio above 80% is commonly used as a context point, while a ratio below 60% can indicate a substantial funding gap. Neither threshold predicts a benefit, tax, or investment outcome. The PPD reports funded ratios on each plan's actuarial-value basis from its CAFR and actuarial valuation; compare plans with their reporting year and assumptions in view.
This directory covers state and local government pension plans tracked by the Public Plans Database, spanning statewide teacher retirement systems, municipal police and fire funds, and general-employee systems across all fifty states. Coverage is limited to defined-benefit plans that publicly report actuarial funding data; small local plans without a published CAFR or actuarial valuation are not included. Grades assigned on this site reflect a plan's funded ratio at its most recent reporting date, not a forecast of future solvency.
